Lacklustre trade continues in Indian Market ahead of US Fed meeting

Indian markets continued to witness lacklustre trading during afternoon session with 30-share benchmark Sensex hovering around base line in the absence of fresh buying activity ahead of US Fed’s meeting. Traders are waiting for US Fed to provide clarity on the fate of its asset purchase programme. Metal, Realty, and IT stocks were providing support to the markets, while banking, and consumer durable stocks dragged. Broader markets were outperforming today. At 2:34PM, BSE SENSEX was at 19351.38 up by 25.51 points or by 0.13 per cent while NSE Nifty was at 5855.15 up by 5.1 points or by 0.09 per cent. 

The BSE MIDCAP was at 6229.4 up by 28.15 points or by 0.45 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 5822.98 up by 27.76 points or by 0.48 per cent. 

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 286.45,+3.52%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 83.70,+1.70%), Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd. (Rs. 83.60,+1.64%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 1835.00,+1.54%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 2458.00,+1.51%), among others. 


The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 148.20,-1.40%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 295.00,-1.37%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 662.50,-0.74%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 984.00,-0.55%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 298.10,-0.48%), among others. 

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2385, shares advanced were 1165 while 1062 shares declined and 158 were unchanged. 

In BSE, BSE_CDS index was at 6581.38 down by -78.3 points or by -1.18%. Titan Industries Ltd. (Rs. 223.15,-2.91%), Blue Star Ltd. (Rs. 159.60,-1.78%), VIP Industries Ltd. (Rs. 56.85,-0.87%), Videocon Industries Ltd. (Rs. 216.80,-0.46%), Whirlpool of India Ltd. (Rs. 202.85,-0.27%),. 

In BSE, BSE_Bankex index was at 13627.59 down by -56.54 points or by -0.41%. Bank of Baroda (Rs. 621.05,-2.24%), IDBI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 76.50,-1.54%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 477.70,-1.32%), Punjab National Bank (Rs. 732.95,-1.24%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1302.30,-1.08%)
